We keep British rare breed sheep on Westfield Croft; we chose sheep from the Scottish islands as they are small, hardy, suitable for our ground and most importantly, need to be preserved.

A primitive breed, Boreray sheep survived as feral animals on the St. Kilda archipelago, a cluster of islands in the Outer Hebrides. Boreray sheep were relocated to the mainland for breeding; the sheep we have are derived from these flocks. Small, slow growing, hardy with wonderful white and tan fleeces, they are super wee sheep on the poor ground.

We also keep a small number of equally hardy Hebridean sheep that provide us with black fleeces.
